Irish Ferries permits you to transport the cremated ashes of your deceased loved one on our ferry services, but you must meet the following requirements:
- Documents: have copies of the official death certificate and the cremation certificate. A letter from the crematorium confirming the urn's contents is also recommended.
- Ashes Container/Urn: The cremated ashes of your deceased loved one should be transported in an appropriate container that is sealed, durable enough to avoid any accidental breakage, and is non-metallic, so it can be scanned by security if required.
As every country has different regulations, restrictions, and rules related to the transportation of cremated ashes, we also recommend that you contact the embassy or consulate in the destination country you intend to travel to with ashes so you fully understand the paperwork and documentation you should carry with you, as some countries may have additional paperwork or procedures.
Due to marine regulations we adhere to, we do not authorise any scattering of ashes from onboard our ferries.
