School group organisers need to be aware of specific requirements for students travelling from France to another EU country such as Ireland.
- Full details on the French requirements can be found in these links in English and French.
- Full details on the Irish requirements can be found here.
Though Irish Ferries can provide information and guidance, we are not qualified to give advice on visa requirements. It is the party leader's responsibility to obtain the necessary paperwork needed for the group to visit.
Specifically it is important to note additional requirements for minors and/or students who are non-EU passport holders but travelling as part of a school group travelling to another EU country.
1. Students who are Minors travelling abroad
A minor of French or foreign nationality who usually lives in France and travels abroad must have an authorization to leave the territory (AST) if they are not travelling with their parent. Full details on this requirement can be found here.
2. Non EU students who require a visa waiver:
In order for minors who hold a non-EU passport to depart and return to France, it is a compulsory requirement to complete a "Liste des participants à un voyage scolaire à l’intérieur de l’Union Européenne / List of travellers for School Journeys within the EU" which can be found in this link here.
This list of travellers must endorsed by the Prefectures AND the school principal.
3. Requirement for correct Passport/ID Documentation
All students must have a valid passport or national identity card.
The following documents will be refused (even where the "list of travellers" is complete):
- Travel documents / titres de voyage
- Residence permits / cartes de séjour
- Documents de circulation pour étrangers mineurs
- Titre d’identité républicain
- Copies of passports (original documents required)
