Health Card: EHIC / GHIC

Holders of a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or UK holder of a valid Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) allows you to access medically necessary healthcare from the state healthcare systems in Ireland, UK and EU member states at a reduced cost or sometimes for free.  "Necessary healthcare" means healthcare which becomes medically necessary during your stay, and you cannot reasonably wait until you return home.

Not all state healthcare is free, and free services may differ between countries. This is not a replacement for travel insurance. We advise that you take out travel insurance and breakdown assistance before your trip.
